Donation Timeline
Typical Process

- The best medical historian (usually family) will be asked to complete a questionnaire to ensure that the appropriate tissue is recovered and placed with the proper researcher or educator. These are standard questions for transplant and/or whole body donation as well as required screening by the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB).
- Science Care requires either Self Authorization forms from the donor, or next of kin to consent to the donation and cremation, in accordance with the AATB and the Uniform Anatomical Gift Act.
- If you are an organ donor for transplant, your family or next of kin will need to know of your wish to donate for transplant as well as whole body donation through Science Care.
- In almost all cases, Science Care can determine acceptance during the first phone call.
- Science Care coordinates all transportation; no need to call funeral home.
