PHOENIX EXPERT TAPPED TO PRESENT PROGRAM ON QUALITY AND YOUR ROLE IN CREATING A QUALITY ORGANIZATION

PHOENIX, AZ -- (July 31, 2007) – John Cover, a local expert on quality and its many different aspects, admits the topic of quality assurance is often not always a topic people want to talk about. His goal is to take quality from apathy to achievable for organizations across the country that needs to implement or recreate their quality program. “I enjoy teaching others how to improve their quality program and therefore transforming an entire organization at a fundamental level,” said Cover.

Cover currently serves as Director of Quality Assurance for Phoenix-based Science Care, the first non-transplant tissue bank to be accredited by the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB). In this role, Cover is responsible for developing, monitoring and improving the quality and operational systems to ensure Science Care continues to set the standard of excellence in the industry. With his ongoing efforts in the non-transplant tissue banking industry, Cover has made tremendous strides in setting quality systems for other nationwide, accredited programs. This fall, Cover will take his message of quality to the 31st Annual AATB Meeting, September 15-18, 2007 in Boston, Mass.

As an invited speaker, Cover will be sharing many key messages with the audience as well as some famous words of wisdom from Lloyd S. Nelson, “Most people would rather live with a problem they can’t solve than to accept a solution they can’t understand.” His presentation will aim to help people find solutions they can understand while building a quality program that is focused on people. Cover suggests that one of the hurdles companies face is assuming that quality is the job of one person or one department rather he believes it is the job of everyone within an organization to embrace their role in quality assurance.

“After my presentation, I hope people will return to their companies and serve as an agent of change,” said Cover.

Quality has been a personal mission for Cover for more than seven years. Prior to joining Science Care in 2005, Cover held multiple Director positions in the American Red Cross (ARC) Biomedical Services Division, both at the ARC National Testing Laboratory in San Diego and in the Blood Component Manufacturing Operations in Idaho. He began his career in blood banking with Blood Systems Laboratories, serving in both technical operations and quality assurance.

Cover received his bachelor’s of science degree in Biology from Northern Arizona University and is a Certified Quality Auditor by the American Society for Quality.
