The Science Care whole body donor program in California links those that wish to leave a lasting legacy to medical science with the researchers and educators that need human tissue in order to help advance medical science. Each donor not only gives of him or herself but gives hope to future generations. By donating to medical science and research, your body lives on by allowing doctors, scientists, emergency services personnel and university medical students in California and across the Globe, the ability to research new life-saving medical and surgical procedures and techniques.

hispanicWho Can Donate in California?

The most common question about donating your body to Science Care for medical research is… “Who can donate?” The answer is simple. Most everyone will meet criteria for whole body donation, including those with cancer, heart disease, arthritis and diabetes. Pre-registration is not required, but it is recommended for California residents. Joining the registry is the first step in opening the conversation with your loved ones and it is important that they understand your wishes in order to carry them out.

Science Care Accreditation

Science Care is accredited by the American Association of Tissue Banks. 3rd party, independent, scientifically based accreditation is important to help shine a bright light on the quality systems and outcomes of the tissue banking operation to ensure safety and uphold the public trust.

A Vital Service Benefiting Everyone’s Future

As an alternative to traditional burial, funeral, or cremation, Science Care’s whole body donation program offers the chance to make a contribution that benefits others. By providing a vital service and a pathway to greater knowledge and discovery, together we can help save lives, advance medical research and education, and improve quality of life for families and the community.

While many people in Los Angeles, San Diego and other areas of Southern California are familiar with the organ donor process and have registered to be an organ donor, most are unaware of the fact that they can also choose the “giving” act of donating their entire body for the advancement of scientific and medical research.
