Bonita was born on March 14, 1951. She was the best mom, grandma, and friend anyone could ever ask for. She was the absolute best listener and was always up for whatever life had in store. My mom loved to drive. She was a school bus driver back in her heyday, so she knew everything about the roads. She was also the coolest grandma there ever was. No matter what the kids asked her to do, she was always game. Whether it was toilet papering, a late-night ice cream run, or needing a ride—no matter what time of night—Grandma was there. She waited patiently and never complained. My mom, Bonita, would give you the shirt off her back. When my brother and I were kids, Mom would give us her last few dollars so we could go out and have fun. It didn’t matter if she had to go without. Seeing us happy made her happy. That was just the kind of person she was. Mom also loved animals. She worked as a veterinary technician for more than 20 years, working the night shift from 6 p.m. until midnight. The animal hospital was only a few blocks from our home. Since she worked after hours, she would let me bring the grandkids to visit her. The kids absolutely loved it. They would run around the hospital, playing with all the dogs and cats. And, of course, there was a bonus—Grandma loved junk food! She would walk with the kids to the nearby store and let them get whatever they wanted. They would have the time of their lives. Those are memories my kids will carry with them for the rest of their lives, and I am so grateful she gave them those special moments with their grandma. I cannot express the size of the hole that has been left in all of our hearts after my mom’s passing. She died way too young, and we truly thought we had more time with her. The house is quiet now, and we miss her sense of humor and her laugh more than words can say. She was always smiling and almost always had her spirits up. You rarely saw her down. She was generous, patient, loving, funny, and always there when you needed her. She was everyone’s best friend. We will miss her more than words could ever express. But we will carry her with us—in our memories, in our stories, in the laughter she gave us, and in the love she gave so freely. Mom, Grandma, and friend—you were truly one of a kind. We love you, and we will miss you terribly.
