Charlene Whitney Horton, aged 78, passed away on August 15, 2026, in Napa, California. Born on September 30, 1947, Charlene dedicated her life to humanitarian efforts and community service, touching the lives of many through her compassion and dedication. Charlene's professional life was marked by her significant contributions to social welfare. She served as the Executive Director for Bay Area United Way for Napa/Solano County. Her remarkable efforts led to the creation of THE HOPE CENTER in Napa, which subsequently established the Napa Shelter Project for women and children, the Napa Adult Shelter, and Community Action of Napa Valley. These institutions have had a profound impact on the community, providing essential services and support to those in need. Charlene pursued higher education at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and the University of Oregon, which equipped her with the skills and knowledge to excel in her career and make meaningful contributions to society. She is survived by her spouse, Michael James Horton; sons, Cassidy James Horton and Eric James Truelove; granddaughter, Ramona Truelove; and sister, Brenda Whitney; niece, Julia Whitney. Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Norma Whitney. A private family gathering will be held to honor Charlene's life and legacy. Her life's work continues to inspire and make a difference in the community she served so passionately.
