Eugene Franklin Caldwell II, affectionately known as Gene, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 69. Gene was born on March 25, 1958, in Lubbock to Eugene Franklin Caldwell and Jerry Lynn Caldwell. A native Texan, he loved cheering on the Texas Tech Red Raiders, listening to The Rolling Stones, and never missed an opportunity to make people laugh. Gene is survived by his children, Ashley (Stan), Eugene Franklin Caldwell III "Trey" (Elise), Alyssa, and James; his beloved grandchildren, Sierra, Cal, Molly, Foster, and Berkeley; his sisters, Cartha and Marci; his former wife, Sharon Caldwell; and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Jerry Caldwell; his brother, James Wood Caldwell, affectionately known as "Ja"; and his former spouse, Lara Caldwell. A Celebration of Life will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on November 21, 2026, at one of his longtime favorite Lubbock establishments, Mi Taco Village. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Organization for Autism Research, in honor of his granddaughter, Berkeley, or to the Alzheimer’s Association, in honor of his late mother, Jerry.
