Gerda Tracy
Tribute
Gerda Tracy was born on September 25, 1938, in Eger, Germany, and passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, in Surprise, Arizona. The Second World War brought her, her brother Wolfgang, and her mother Thea to Herborn, Hessen, Germany. Her father died in the military hospital. At the age of 18, she followed her uncle and his family to Canada. From there she returned to Germany, where she was employed by Air India ground staff in Frankfurt. It was here where she met and fell in love with her future husband, Jim Tracy, then a soldier in the US Army. She followed him to New York, they married, and Jim died very young at the age of 45. Jim was the love of her life, and she never got remarried. She again followed her uncle and family to Phoenix, Arizona, where she lived until her death. She kept in touch with her brother and family in Germany. Regular visits took place. I got to know Gerda through her nephew Peter, my husband. We traveled to the USA for the first time when our daughter Talina was 5 years old. From then on, Gerda made many visits to Germany and we to the USA. She was our Mum in the USA. Whenever we came, we went to her first, a beautiful home was waiting for us. We usually drove off in the camper van and at the end of our vacation we went back to Gerda's house. We felt safe, cared for, and secure. We will keep Gerda and her care in loving memory.
