Tribute

On Friday, July 29, 2022, Helen Charlotte Hatcher passed away at the age of 97. Helen was predeceased by her husband Robert and her son Robert. She is survived by her sons Brian, Peter (wife: Pamela), Christopher (children: Charlotte, Gordon, Ella). Helen Schober was born to two German immigrant parents and raised during the Great Depression in Lynbrook, New York. After studying Fashion Design at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, she did some modeling and went on to work in the fashion district in Manhattan. One of her dress designs made it to the cover of a fashion magazine. She continued to appreciate classic looks throughout her life. She married Robert Hatcher, a Newfoundland immigrant. Together they raised 4 sons in Plainview and Huntington, New York. No easy feat. She recounts that when asked by her husband, “What did you do today Helen?”, she replied “I kept them alive!”. She was an avid rose gardener, enjoyed playing tennis and playing her piano. At the age of 77, she moved to Newburyport Massachusetts, to be close to her children. She immediately assimilated into the community there. She joined the choir at the Belleville Congregational Church and greatly valued her friendships with the pastor and other congregants. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
