Major Henry E Taucher, U.S.Army Retired, was born in Berlin, Germany. He was a holocaust survivor & traveled to the United States in 1947 on the SS Marine Marlin. He spent a year in New York in an orphanage & then was fostered in Kansas City for another year before being united with his 2 cousins in Joplin, Missouri. He remained forever grateful for all the opportunities given to him once in the United States. In 1953 he was drafted in to the U.S. Army serving a total of 22 years. During that time, he was deployed to Taiwan, Korea, Germany, & Vietnam & was in combat in the TET offensive in Saigon. He finished his military career at the Pentagon as an aide to the Supreme Allied Commander (L.L. Lemnitzer) General U.S. Army for 7 years & retired as a Major in 1973. He was always so very proud to of served this country. He went on to work for Lockheed Aircraft International for a total of 5 years, of which he managed a London office in Southall, Middlesex, for 3 years. He was a very accomplished Classical Pianist who shared his passion for music with many students. He loved to golf, had a brilliant mind for numbers & mathematics & was an enthusiastic competitive table tennis champion, playing until the age of 91. Sadly, he passed away peacefully in his home with his wife & daughter by his side. There is a book called "Saved By The Enemy" written by Craig A Ledbetter, a True Story about Henry & his brothers' survival & escape during wartime, Berlin.
