Tribute

Herbert J. “Herb” Levinson, born October 16, 1934, in Brooklyn, New York, passed away on February 16, 2026. A judo champion, Herb carried his achievement with quiet pride. In February 1953, near the end of the Korean War, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, demonstrating courage and a strong sense of duty. He later dedicated much of his professional life to craftsmanship and precision, working as an electromechanical engineer and aircraft engine mechanic for Pan American Airways until the company’s closure. In the mid-1980s, Herb moved to Florida, where he continued to enrich the lives of those around him. Known for his warmth, charm, and playful, flirtatious spirit, he delighted in making people smile. He loved storytelling, waved readily to strangers, and had a lifelong fondness for mathematics—never far from a slide rule or scientific calculator. Later in life, he discovered a passion for painting, sharing his creativity through art. In his final months, he was lovingly supported by Debby (Larry), David (Holly), Steve, and his grandson Jeremy, whose dedication guided him through hospital stays, daily care, and every aspect of his treatment. Herb will be deeply missed and warmly remembered for the kindness, curiosity, and joy he brought into the world.
