A Tribute to James Michael Reed. James Michael Reed lived a life defined by creativity, generosity, faith, and an unforgettable love for the people and experiences that brought him joy. Born on October 18, 1969, in Jacksonville, Florida, James spent many of his younger years in Germany. Those experiences helped shape his adventurous spirit and inspired a lifelong love of traveling and discovering new places. James never simply passed through life—he noticed its beauty. Whether he was behind a camera, holding a pencil, or standing on a skateboard, he had a special ability to see the world from his own unique perspective. James was a truly talented artist who loved drawing and creating. Photography was another of his greatest passions, and he could often be found “capturing the moment.” Through his photographs, he preserved the people, places, and memories that mattered most to him. His artwork and pictures were more than hobbies; they were reflections of his heart and the way he viewed the world. Skateboarding was also an important part of James’s story. From 2005 through 2011, he owned and operated BOARDZ, a skateboard shop that he personally designed. But BOARDZ was much more than a business. James incorporated a Christian youth group into the shop, creating a place where young people could gather, feel accepted, express themselves, and grow in their faith. He used his love of skateboarding to encourage others and build a community—something that perfectly reflected the kind of person he was. Professionally, James worked in telecommunications, completing much of his work at Walt Disney World. Disney held a special place in his heart. He enjoyed visiting the parks just as much as he enjoyed working there, and the happiness and imagination associated with Disney spoke to his playful and creative spirit. James was also known for his extraordinarily generous heart. In 2024, he donated more than 200 plush Walt Disney characters to Wolfson Children’s Hospital and the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. He wanted children and families facing difficult circumstances to experience a little happiness and comfort. He did not give for recognition—he gave because helping others brought him joy. James was, quite simply, a giver. Beyond his talents, interests, and accomplishments, James will be remembered most for the love he shared with his family and friends. He was a beloved son, brother, father, fiancé, uncle, and friend. His humor, creativity, kindness, and one-of-a-kind personality left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. James taught us to follow our passions, explore the world, create something meaningful, give generously, and never miss the opportunity to capture a special moment. Although his time with us ended far too soon, his story will continue through the people he loved, the lives he touched, the art he created, and the memories he so beautifully preserved.
