When I think of the word mother, it brings warm feelings of security, joy, and peace. My mother, Josefa, although small in stature, had the will of ten men. She also had the biggest heart and was willing to help her family, sometimes to her detriment. My mother had a special way to find joy in the most mundane tasks. A core memory I'm sure all of my siblings share of her, is her Saturday cleaning routine. Spanish music is playing loudly in the background. I can still see her, mopping the floors in her sweatpants, sweaty and wet from cleaning. Singing to the music with joy. She would often turn to me with a big smile and ask me to help her with the bathrooms. Me being the greatest son ever to lessen her load, would go right away. And not to mention she also had a community of loving preschool children, parents, co-workers, and family that appreciated and loved her funny sense of humor, stylish wardrobe, and personality. May Josefa now rest in the embrace of our Lord and never forget she is very much loved and missed in this world.
