She went away without farewell, She said goodbye to none. But Heaven’s gate was open wide. And a loving voice said “Come.” God saw her getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around her, and whispered “Come to Me.” God saw the road was getting rough, And the hills were hard to climb. So he closed her weary eyes, And whispered “Peace be thine.” It broke our hearts to lose her. But she did not go alone. For part of us went with her. The day God called her home. Kate fought valiantly but finally lost her battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Kate was kind, compassionate and generous with an enthusiastic zest for life. She was born in Santa Monica, California and attended and graduated from California State University in 1981. She worked for the IRS in California until requesting a transfer to the east coast in 2004, and eventually retired from her job with the federal government in 2016. Kate enjoyed animals and bred, raised and showed dogs for years. She had always wanted a farm where she could raise dogs and livestock. She discovered Soay sheep, a rare breed of miniature sheep from Scotland and developed an interest in helping to conserve the breed. After moving to Liberty, NC, Kate was able to realize her dream by buying a farm, a small core flock of Soay sheep and a few llamas for herd protectors. Before she died, her flock had grown to over 70. She made arrangements for the flock to be dispersed among several farms, with people who would appreciate her efforts and continue her dream. Kate died peacefully at her farm surrounded by loving friends and her beloved dogs.
