Lucinda A. Nieto, age 80, of Skokie, Illinois, born on February 27, 1946, passed away following a brief illness, on August 7th of 2026. She was surrounded by her loving daughters and her significant other and spent her final day filled with love, laughter, and song. She was born in Corpus Cristi, Texas and spent some years in Iowa before she came to live in Illinois. Lucinda was a gifted and caring licensed clinical social worker, who was bilingual and worked tirelessly in the Latino community in Evanston for decades. She also worked as a social worker at Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston and subsequently in private practice in Skokie. She touched the lives of all her friends and clients with her generosity of spirit, compassion and caring. All who were honored to share even a passing moment with her, let alone years of precious memories, remember her as a loyal, brilliant, devoted friend and therapist whose currency was encouragement, faith, humor and great hugs. Lucinda survived countless health issues, but they did not define her. Her greatest prayer was to live alone enough to raise her two young beautiful daughters and to give herself to lifting all the troubled souls that sought her guidance and strength. Her talent was her ability to meet people where they were and to help them live their best lives. She believed in education of any and all types of generational improvements as well as encouraging bilingual studies. Her passions besides her precious friends and relationships, included her Catholic faith, spirituality, watching and hearing the waves at the lakefront, plants, kitties, elephants, nature, the moon, and decorating cards unique to everyone to send for all occasions. Lucinda's loving partner would hope everyone will not mourn her passing but celebrate the beautiful and selfless life she led by remembering the sense of belonging, acceptance, warmth, uplifting faith she inspired, along with her laughter and hugs. Somehow Lucinda managed to keep a childlike innocence and humor going till her time to go to heaven arrived and she would want you all to remember her that way. In keeping with selfless acts, Lucinda left her body to science to help others. There will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will take place a year from her passing and will be private affair for her family and friends, who will receive further notification. If you wish to make a contribution in her name for the service, you can send your gifts and her honor to her life partner. Any funds received beyond what is needed for the celebration will be used to help others. In parting, Lucinda would hope her family and friends can take comfort in all the beautiful memories they have shared throughout the years and would want to say in parting take the gentlest of care.

Friends & Family

Lucinda was a loving mother of Christina snipes and Alicia Nieto. She was a doting grandmother to Penelope and Lucy Snipes. She also leaves behind her cherished son-in-law Dave, cousin Becky, and Jim, her former husband and loving father of her daughters. She was preceded in her passing by her precious family; Her parents Jeanne and Harry, and her brothers, Rick and Ralph as well as all her treasured aunts and uncles and other relatives. She also was an honorary daughter, sister, and auntie to the Anagnos family who loved her dearly. Finally, she leaves behind Toula Anagnos, her devoted partner of 22 years, who refers to her beloved Lucinda as the love of her life and the quintessential personification of God's loving spirit.
