She was born on August 14, 1935, in Bay City, MI, and was the daughter of the late Amanda and Edward Ballor of Linwood, MI. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Hugh G. Hanson, and six siblings, Roy, Leonard, James, Lena, Audrey, and Harold. Peggy is survived by three children, Andrew (Beth), Elizabeth (Vanessa), and Brian; three stepchildren, Kathleen (Robert), Andrew (Trina), and William (Danielle); two grandchildren, Amanda (Joel) and Kevin (Kristy), and four great-grandchildren, Isabella, Roslyn, Hazel, and Keirah; and by nieces, and nephews (too many to name here) all of whom were dear to her. Peggy and her husband, Hugh, traveled to 23 countries and 49 of the 50 states in the nation. They loved spending time with family and friends and retired to Naples, FL. Peggy and Hugh supported the University of Michigan Alumni Club and many non-profit organizations. Peggy was a lifelong Catholic, loved to watch UM football, enjoyed playing tennis, and was a competitive duplicate bridge card player. As a young adult, Peggy was a dedicated volunteer, serving on the Essexville School Board and organizing for community organizations in Michigan and Florida, such as the March of Dimes, a Hospital Auxiliary Board, and the Red Cross. Her most rewarding experience was serving as a Fire Commissioner for 12 years in North Collier County, FL and she was especially proud to support firefighters and first responders in the Naples community. The youngest of seven children, Peggy attended Western Michigan University and Saginaw Valley State University. Peggy and Hugh shared their commitment to public education, supporting their children and youth in the community to help them receive technical training or achieve a higher education degree. A celebration of life service will be at Silver Maples of Chelsea, Michigan, by invitation. The immediate family will host a private luncheon in Bay City, MI. Peggy’s ashes will be interred at the Florida National Cemetery near Tampa, FL, next to Hugh Hanson, who was a Lieutenant in the U.S Navy.
