Tribute

Margie passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and friends. True to her word, she left this world with “no items left on her bucket list.” Margie lived life to its fullest—whether dancing, attending concerts and live theater, catching the latest movies, traveling, playing cards, golfing, or celebrating with friends. She poured her heart into volunteering, especially with the Idyllwilde Social Committee, the Pace Center, and her cherished Cherry Creek Valley Rotary Afternoon Club. At Christmastime, she was beloved as the “Naughty Little Elf,” joyfully delivering gifts to those in hospitals and assisted living homes. A Denver native, Margie grew up in Crestmoor, graduated from George Washington High School, earned her degree from Colorado State University, and later a master’s from the University of Denver. She enjoyed a 25-year career with the phone company before becoming a successful high-tech recruiter. Though her professional path took many turns, her passion always lay in psychology and social work, where her compassion, empathy, and ability to connect with others shone in everything she did. Margie was the kind of person who made friends everywhere she went. She offered comfort in hard times—sending cards, calling, or simply being there—and she was equally present in joyful moments, often planning the celebrations and staying until the very end. Her radiant smile and infectious laugh left an imprint on countless hearts, just as she hoped. Her journey with cancer spanned more than three decades. First diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993, she shared her story publicly on Channel 7 News. When it returned in 2015, she turned her experience into hope for others by writing Steps Unknown Never Forgotten. In 2024, she faced cancer once more, this time with extraordinary courage and honesty, sharing her perspective in the October 2025 issue of 5280 Magazine. Margie chose to leave behind her story and her spirit as a reminder that she will never be forgotten. Margie is survived by her son Jeremy Cohen and his wife Tasha, and by her beloved granddaughters Jacey (18) and Joleigh (11). She was the daughter of the late Ed and Jane Murray, and one of seven siblings: the late Bob Murray, Liz (Kendall) Deines, the late Rick Murray, Bill Murray, Dan (Denise) Murray, and Marcy (Bob) Cain. She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews who will carry her memory with love. She is now reunited with her husband, Larry, who passed away in 2023. They shared 53 wonderful years of marriage. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to breast cancer research or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be held in the coming weeks, where friends and family will gather to honor Margie’s extraordinary life.
