Rev. Oscar Wayne Turner, 90; Retired Great Plains Conference of the United Methodist Church Elder. Born February 17, 1935; died September 30, 2025. Wayne started his service in ministry with the former Kansas East Conference of the United Methodist Church in 1962 as Director of Christian Education, Fairway, KS, Old Mission UMC, and Jefferson County (KS) Cooperative Ministries. He then went on to serve as pastor of Tecumseh UMC, KS, Overland Park, KS, Indian Heights UMC, and Kansas City, KS, Bristol Hill UMC until he retired in 2000. After retirement, he served as Pastor of Children’s Ministries at Lawrence, KS, First UMC. Wayne loved his family, church, friends, art, and music. Supporting children and youth ministries was important to him, including serving as Director of the U.N.-D.C. Youth Study Tour for 8 years. Wayne is preceded by his wife, Shirley Turner. He is survived by his daughter, Angela Slaton of Sacramento, CA, his son, Darin Turner of Fishers, Indiana, granddaughter, Hailey Slaton of Sacramento, CA. Gifts in memory of Wayne may be given to Cross Lines Community Outreach, Inc., Kansas City, KS or International Child Art Foundation. Both our mother, Shirley Turner, and father, Oscar Wayne Turner, donated their bodies to science, believing in the importance of education and research.
