Peter always had an adventurous spirit and preferred to spend as much of his time outdoors as possible. In his early 20s, Pete made some key decisions that greatly enriched his life: he learned how to kayak and became a whitewater river rafting guide, he opened a Christmas tree farm, and he bought an old house in California. Pete farmed and sold trees for the rest of his working life. Pete was happiest on a river trip. He loved taking his family on many adventures, road tripping and camping all over California, and going on wonderful summer river trips in Oregon and Idaho. Pete loved being a dad and was so proud of each of his kids. Pete’s life hit a rough patch when he was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. He navigated many challenging health complications related to his cancer throughout the rest of his life, the most significant being an infection leading to a traumatic brain injury. He never lost his sense of adventure, and more importantly, he never lost his wonderful community of friends, who continued to take him down rivers and support Pete and his family in every possible way for the rest of his life.
