Tribute

Philmore Floyd McKenzie loved his God and lived in accordance with his strong faith and moral principles. He also loved his family, friends, and church community with a passion. His love for service was remarkable and will always be remembered for his willingness and readiness to lend a helping hand to those in need. Philmore was a mechanical engineer and math teacher by profession, but his love for music was special. He played the violin like a virtuoso and the steel pan with gusto. He was a member of the Metropolitan Symphony Steel Orchestra in the Washington, DC, metro area, and many people were blessed by his music ministry. He was one of the easiest people to talk with and was always patient and understanding of opposing points of view. He was never ashamed to share his beliefs, especially relating to his strong faith in God. He was a deep thinker and taught us to think for ourselves and not be mere reflectors of other men's thoughts. Truth be told, sometimes it was not easy to stand in the shadow of his great intellect, and one of our most profound memories is his reminder to us that from the moment we are born to the moment we die, everyone puts their faith in something. Philmore McKenzie faced all his challenges with utmost trust that the Creator knows exactly what He's doing. We truly believe that the best is yet to come, and this is not the end of his story; for the Bible tells us in 1 Thessalonians 4: 16-17, "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then, we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, so shall we ever be with the Lord." Until then, we comfort one another with these words.
