Randy Wolling
Tribute
Randy was an adventurous kid at a young age. He grew up with his loving mom, Joyce, and 2 siblings. Sandy was 2 years old when Randy was born and Ricky was only 1 year old when Randy was born. Unfortunately, Randy's father was not involved in his life or his sibling's life. It was just the 4 of them. A young mom with 3 children under the age of 2. To say this was a challenge is an understatement. Fortunately, Randy's grandma and grandpa were amazing, and Randy had the opportunity to spend a lot of time on the farm helping his grandparents. Before the age of 2, Randy had to endure two eye surgeries. By the time he was 2 years old, he was already very adventurous. He would climb up the grain silo, and crawl up on a picnic table so he could hop on a bike to ride it since he was too short to get on a bike the regular way. We believe the reason he had no fear was because of his eyesight, he didn't realize how dangerous it really was. For the last 27 years of his life, Randy had lived out in California and chose to live a life of faith and serving God. He did not have much, just a few belongings, and was homeless. We would often ask him to come back to Minnesota, but he was at peace in California. He loved the sound of the ocean waves. He was not your typical homeless person. He built friendships with people and often would be invited over to their homes for a home-cooked meal. Randy would often help fix things for people. His mother paid for him to have a cell phone so that we could all keep in touch with him, which was reassuring to know he was still alive and ok. He even had a family that he met on the beach to help with the expenses of the cell phone. Randy had a kind soul. He would always put others' needs before his own. Randy was a very generous person. He would go signing (flipping signs) however he never asked for money or food. He had signs that would say…be kind, Jesus loves you, smile, have a great day. All positive messages that he would share with others. One day he was out signing for 7-8 hours, people would give money to him even when he didn’t ask for it. Another homeless guy showed up and started signing asking for money. Randy (aka Sage, that is what he went by), gave the other homeless man the money that he received that day plus some food. Randy left with his pockets empty. Randy was always kind to people and animals. His last dog while he was homeless, he called Blessings. He was spiritual and would often share bible verses with his family or strangers he would encounter. or text people bible verses. Although we are extremely sad about the passing of our loved one, Randy Wolling, we are so incredibly grateful for the person who called 911, the hospital staff for the great care, and my mom's pastor who moved from Minnesota to California who was able to be with Randy during his final days. Blessed be his memory.
