J. Raymond ("Ray") DeLong of Highland Park, IL, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, at the age of 84 after a long illness. He was a former UIUC journalism professor, news reporter, and magazine editor for the American Bar Association. In his free time, he loved going to first-run films and musicals, antiquing, traveling, and was an avid photographer, patiently waiting for the right shot, whether it was of an animal in the zoo or his 4 grandchildren, who called him "Fuzzy." He will be missed for his hearty, infectious laughter. Consider honoring him with a donation to the Alzheimer's Association.

Ray is survived by his son Seth, wife Else-Britt, and her children Karen and husband Scott, Laura and husband Jeff, and Daniel, as well as their 4 grandchildren, Ollie, Leif, Julian, and Elin.
