Richard (Dick) was a wonderful husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, and a friend to everyone he met. He enjoyed simple things and could make anything more fun. He loved playing Santa at Christmas and preparing his special kielbasa for dinner. He enjoyed dinner with friends and family and knew a few tricks to catch a waiter’s attention so he could foot the bill. He was always full of wit and wisdom; never full of himself. One of his daughters-in-law called him a “contributor” because he always gave more than he took in any situation. He loved joking around and could enjoy the joke even if it was at his expense. To watch him and his younger brother Joe joke back and forth while enjoying a Scotch together was like watching a good comedy duo that could set a room laughing until it hurt. Dick was also serious and deeply responsible and reasonable, often serving as the calm voice of reason for friends and family in dilemmas large and small. He had been ill in one way or another for a couple of years and was, not surprisingly, a good patient. He was never irritated, didn’t complain, and was only really sick near the end, when he was tired, telling his doctor, "Doc, I'm done. My bags are packed, and I'm ready to go.” And so he did, with the calm dignity he displayed throughout his life. He finally passed away at home in excellent Hospice Care and with family by his side as he took his last breath. He went out like the graceful and strong gentleman he was. Richard was also a U.S. Marine, so he left our home with an American Flag draped over him and TAPS playing in his honor. We know he is at rest and in a better place. Richard, we will miss you every day. Rest in peace, my dear.
