Tribute

Ronald 'Ron' Lee Eastwood, 70, was surrounded by his family when he passed away on February 5, 2023, at City of Hope Hospital in Duarte, California. He was born on February 21, 1952, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Donald and Cleatha Bell Eastwood. Ron grew up in Westminster, California. He graduated from La Quinta High School in 1970. He later graduated from the University of San Francisco. Ron served in the Army from 1972 to 1975 and was discharged at Fort Ord in Monterey County, California. He remained in Monterey County for the remainder of his life. In 1987, Ron married his wife Carol, and they had two daughters. They celebrated 35 years of marriage last September and they lived in Spreckels for the past 21 years. Ron retired from the Monterey County Office of Education in 2012, after 34 years. He was the Executive Director of the Mounty County Literacy Campaign from 2012 to 2014. As an elected official, he served as a board member of the Spreckels Community Services District and the Veteran Memorial District. He also served on volunteer boards such as the Monterey County Film Festival, the Big Sur International Marathon, and the Foundation for the Monterey County Free Libraries. Ron was proud to have voted in every federal, state, and local election from 1972 to 2022. He will be remembered for his love of family, community, books, travel, wine, and gardening. His eternal optimism, strength, kindness, and understated sense of humor will never be forgotten. He is survived by his wife, Carol Cuellar; his mother, Cleatha Eastwood; his daughters, Sara and Virginia Eastwood; his brothers, Steve (Debbie) and Mark (Dawn) Eastwood; as well as his nieces, nephews, and many beloved friends.
