Sylvia J. Moreland, 67, of Apache Junction, Arizona, passed away peacefully on the morning of September 12, 2026, following a short illness. Sylvia was born on October 2, 1958, in Greenville, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Vernon, Ohio. In 1996, she made her home in Apache Junction, where she spent 20 years working as a paraprofessional at Apache Junction Public School before retiring. Sylvia had a generous heart and a deep love for cooking and feeding people. Sharing food was one of the ways she showed her love, and she often went out of her way to make sure that people who were struggling or in need had something to eat. She cared deeply about people who were overlooked or living on the margins, and she was never afraid to stand up for those she believed needed someone in their corner. A celebration of Sylvia's life will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Globe, Arizona, on November 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest alongside the beloved pets who went before her. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a local food pantry or to Superstition Community Food Bank, a cause close to Sylvia's heart. In this way, her love of feeding and caring for others can continue to help people in need.
Her memory will live on through her children, Nick Roisier, Diana Moreland, and her adopted son, Saturnino Hernandez Romero; her three grandchildren; and the many friends, loved ones, and people whose lives she touched throughout the years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Furello Meloni and Helen Meloni.
