Tribute

Theron David Gertz, Sr., died passed away on October 14th in New York. Born in 1946 and raised in Redwood City, CA, he married Carole Miller in 1966 and moved to Butte, MT in 1972. They had 3 children, David, Eva and Jonathan. “Dave” worked as a heavy equipment mechanic at the Berkeley Pit before joining the Butte Police Department, retiring as a Detective. He was also a Staff Sergeant in the Army National Guard, where he won numerous shooting competitions. After retiring, he moved back to California to start a commercial fishing business, and then live on his sailboat in Half Moon Bay, CA. He sailed all over the Pacific coast and in the Caribbean and traveled to over 20 countries. He loved road trips, the ocean, spending time with family, and tinkering with cars. He is survived by his 3 children and 9 grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his unflinching courage, strong personality, great sense of humor, adventurous spirit and deep generosity.
