Tribute

Virginia “Kay” Long was born and raised in Rapid City, South Dakota. She married Howard “Keith” Long in 1954 and traveled a bit in the early years of her marriage, but settled down again in Rapid City to raise her own family. She obtained her master’s degree in mathematics from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and taught there for several years. One of her proudest accomplishments was to further her career by obtaining certification as a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries. Another remarkable accomplishment was to achieve a black belt in Taekwondo at the age of 65. She had a sharp mind and a keen wit. It is fitting that, as a lifelong woman of STEM, her final act is to contribute to the scientific advancement of medical research through total body donation.

Survived by her three children: Scott L. Long of Ft. Collins, CO; Leslie J. (Long) Beaudette of Rapid City, SD; Kim M. Long of Geneva, IL
