Tribute

Walter Cevelin, age 75, passed peacefully with family at his side on 5/25/2024. Born 1//1949 East Orange, New Jersey to USAF Captain Ranger & Evelyn Cevelin. Walt spent his early years as an Air Force brat until his father’s retirement to Orlando, Florida. There he developed a passion for collecting & preserving most, if not all, species of snakes known to Florida, that collection was later proudly donated to Cheney Elementary, East Orange, County; and exploring the woods and stream that once was part of the local environment. Walt’s additional passions included fishing, cars and gardening. Walt retired as a Master Printer having originally learning the trade at The Orlando Sentinel shortly after graduating from Colonial High School in 1968. He worked for several firms throughout his career. Walt was, miraculously, a Stage 4 lung cancer survivor. It was that which convinced him he wanted to donate his mortal remains to science so others may learn and understand what and how he possibly survived. Later Walt developed and passed from “ Lifestyle induced, early onset dementia.” Given his earlier wishes it was tantamount that the family honor his earlier wishes for donation to science. We were honored to do so.
