William “Bill” Kalas was born in Glendale, Arizona, to Dr. W.E. and Olga Kalas. He passed away peacefully in Flagstaff, Arizona. Bill attended Arizona State College (now Northern Arizona University) before graduating from Palmer College of Chiropractic. He returned to Glendale to join his father in private practice, beginning a distinguished career that would have a lasting impact on the chiropractic profession. In 1959, Bill served as President of the Arizona Chiropractic Association. During his presidency, he helped lead the effort to modernize Arizona's Chiropractic Practice Act, stood with Governor Paul Fannin when the legislation was signed into law, and was named Arizona's Outstanding Chiropractor. For nearly two decades, Bill served on the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners, the organization responsible for developing the national licensing examinations for chiropractors. Elected president three times and vice president four times, he helped strengthen chiropractic licensure, education, and professional standards nationwide during the Board's formative years. Through his leadership in Arizona and at the national level, Bill helped shape the standards of the chiropractic profession for generations to come. After retiring in 1992, Bill and his beloved wife of 45 years, Danitza, made their home in beautiful Oak Creek Canyon, where they enjoyed retirement until declining health required a move for him to assisted living in Flagstaff in 2025. Above all, Bill's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his wife, Danitza, of Sedona; his daughter, Kim, of Flagstaff; and his grandsons, Alexander Anderson and Christopher Kalas, both of Flagstaff. He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Velma, Lois, and Donna.
