Tribute

On January 13th, 2026, William Howard Weaver Junior found the peace he sought for 69 years. The Lord tried to claim Bill, or Billy, as he was known colloquially, when he was just a boy, after he was struck and nearly taken by a passing car as he disembarked from the school bus. The conjecture at the time was that Bill would never walk again. But those of you who knew him in life, and of that there are many, knew that he was a natural-born survivor. Bill was an avid angler and woodsman, spending an uncountable number of hours in the wilderness. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, and reveling in the spectacle of nature. Bill was an Eagle Scout and moved through the world as a true steward of the earth; he expected others to do the same. He once famously followed a horse and buggy home to a neighbor’s farm just to inform a father that he’d seen his son toss a beer can into the underbrush. Bill’s life was lived at full volume, fueled by a primal love of music that formed the soundtrack of his odyssey. He was an amazing cook who found great joy in feeding others both at home and through his small catering business, where his pig roasts became the centerpiece of so many celebrations. Invariably, his appetite was as legendary as his cooking. He was the kind of man who would eat the whole box of ice cream sandwiches at 2 AM, while the rest of the house slept, without sparing a second thought. Bill was a wild human and carried a staggering gift for brotherhood. To know Bill was to be his friend, and he leaves behind friends without number. He will be sorely missed. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Howard Weaver and Emma Jane Snyder of Ronks, PA. He is survived by the love of his life, Barbara Ann Windle; his daughter, Paige Alexandra; his son, Graham Elliott; his daughter-in-law, Katharine Kitner (Rogers); and his two grandchildren, Charles Harlan and Penelope Jane. Weavers all. Shine on, you crazy diamond.
