Mom said she wanted to be a opera singer since she saw Hansel and Gretel as a young girl. And her goal was achieved. One of my favorite memories of her is when she sang to us at bedtime. Her favorite was in the second act of Engelbert Humperdinck's opera Hansel and Gretel. There was a treasure, a song, that lived in her heart forever: Fourteen Angels. It's a prayer that fourteen angels gather round and protect the children. A prayer come to life. And when she sang to us, she sounded like a angel herself. Beyond moms passion for singing, she picked up the hobby of painting with water colors that she became quite good at. Another love was gardening. Since I can remember she always had the most fragrant roses. Whenever I see one, I think of her. She will be missed.
