Zena Givens
Tribute
My grandma is from England, born in 1943. My grandma had 2 siblings, one who died during the war when he was very young because all of the medicine went to the soldiers and a sister. My grandma recalled a time a bomb was dropped in what she would consider her backyard yard but it didn't detonate. My grandma had told me about a time her father took her out to pick out a wild horse and she would point out the one she wanted and he would go and catch it. My grandma embarked on her journey to the United States when she was 16 years old with her cousin, sister, and parents. Her father died not too long after being in the States. He was struck by a drunk driver while riding a bicycle to work. Her mother was a midwife in England before she moved to the United States and passed away in 1993. She struggled with a thyroid issue and at one point needed her eyes sewn shut due to them bulging out and being unable to close them. She was married to my grandpa for 58 years and 10 days. Together they had 2 children, 6 grandchildren (one who has already passed), 13 great-grandchildren (one who has already passed,) and one more on the way.
