Science Care has expanded our biospecimen service offerings with new birth tissue capabilities and improved FFPE (Formalin Fixed Paraffin Embedded) preparation services. These enhancements support research, translational science, and medical education initiatives.
These new offerings are part of Science Care’s ongoing dedication to providing high-quality, research-ready biospecimens that help drive scientific discovery and innovation in the life sciences community.
Supporting Research Through Birth Tissue Services
Birth tissue, which includes the placenta and umbilical cord, contains biologically rich materials. These materials can support various research, training, and translational science applications. Through strategic partnerships, Science Care is increasing access to birth tissue for research and educational purposes.
Available birth tissue materials may include cord blood, cord tissue, placenta (with and without cord attached), amniotic membrane and amniotic fluid.
These materials may support:
• Regenerative medicine research
• Biomarkerdiscovery
• Drugdevelopment
• Translational science
• Cell and molecular biology research
• Surgical and procedural training
• Medical education and laboratory training initiatives
Birth tissue, often discarded after birth, may provide valuable resources that contribute to future therapies, diagnostics, scientific discoveries, and educational advancement. By expanding into birth tissue services, Science Care supports researchers, educators, and healthcare innovators aiming to improve patient outcomes and scientific understanding.
Advancing FFPE Biospecimen Capabilities
In addition to birth tissue services, Science Care recently reached a key milestone in its FFPE biospecimen capabilities. Using tissue recovered from a Science Care low post donor, teams successfully prepared the organization's first FFPE adrenal gland block for a research project. This effort shows how donor-derived tissue can continue to support pathology, translational research, and scientific progress.
Why FFPE Matters
FFPE stands for Formalin Fixed Paraffin Embedded, a commonly used method for preserving tissue in pathology and biomedical research. FFPE processing allows tissue samples to be stored long-term while maintaining their structure for future analysis. These preserved samples support various important applications, including pathology and histology research, assay development, biomarker research, translational science, future scientific discovery, and more.
Programs like this help maximize the impact of every donorgift by supporting meaningful research, education, and innovation.
As Science Care continues to expand its biospecimen services, both birth tissue capabilities and FFPE preparation programs present important opportunities to further support the research community. From donation to discovery and education, every contribution can advance science, enhance medical understanding, and shape the future of healthcare.
